Are you thinking about leasing a new Audi TT Coupe? Read our handy leasing guide!
This is the third generation Audi TT and even 21 years after it was first introduced to the car market, the TT still maintains the same impact; causing a stir with its classic exterior design and industry-leading interior experience.
We still have the distinctive shape with the low, sweeping roof, and the two-door design still offers that timeless sporty look, while providing a satisfying all-round package for the driver and passengers.
The TT has always been associated with the famous Isle of Man road racing event, but there is no danger and no heroics with the 2014-released Mk3 model. This is a safe and stable drive that still offers plenty of dramatic flair when you want it.
Notable in the Coupe range is the Roadster version with a fully automatic convertible roof, and there is also a limited edition TT20 version, with 150 models released in the UK in 2018 to mark the 20th anniversary.
There was a fear that the release of the third generation TT would meet an underwhelming response, but most serious car buyers were pleased that not too much had been changed. The car had been refined, with some weight taken out to improve the dynamics, and the suspension improved also. The bumper design was also enhanced slightly on the S-line spec models, but other than that, the classic design was largely untouched.
You can no longer get a diesel version of the TT and the lower tune of engines has the choice of manual or automatic, but not on the higher versions. There are three tunes of 2.0-litre engine and a fourth 2.5-litre five cylinder engine.
The famous virtual cockpit that brought great attention to the original TT remains, with the option of switching between traditional dials and a widescreen, digital version. You benefit from a choice of different driving modes via Drive Select and you can also enjoy Bluetooth and an illuminated USB socket as nice interior touches.
Audi have realised there’s a lot to be said for the classic TT design and this remains a taut, punchy and unspoilt package, that might have less thrill than a Porsche, but at the entry-level is far more affordable.
The S-tronic gearbox is one of the best twin-clutch systems anywhere, and with good seat and steering adjustments available, a lush interior and amazing boot space when the back seats are folded down, the TT is still having the same impact over 20 years after it first appeared.
The original TT changed the market perception of the Audi brand and with over half a million sold, you could be forgiven for thinking there has been an overkill of the TT model. Five years on from the third generation release, however, the market is still delighted that the TT is pulling the same punches as before, but with improved styling and a driver-focused cabin. With the TT being manual and front-driven it has drawn comparisons with the VW Golf GTI, but the engine sounds wonderful and this helps give the TT a character all of its own.
