One Year On: Q&A With Our Brand Ambassadors

This time last year, five of our celebrity brand ambassadors received brand new cars. But, little did we know that just weeks later, we’d be hit with a national lockdown, limiting travel and the need to drive.

Despite this, our ambassadors have put their wheels to good use, clocking up the mileage where they could and are ready to tell all on what they really think of their cars...

Former X Factor winner Sam Bailey bagged herself her dream car – a Ford Mustang in ‘race red’...

Q: So Sam, you finally got your dream car! How does it feel?

A: I am thrilled to be driving around (locally) in my dream car. I wouldn’t say I’m a complete petrolhead, but I am definitely into cars and had always dreamt about owning a Ford Mustang ever since I was a teenager. It’s just as good as I imagined – better in fact, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Q: What is that you like about the Mustang?

A: Have you seen it? It’s stunning! It doesn’t feel like driving an ordinary car – I feel really special when I’m in it. It has such a sleek and classic look, it’s timeless.

Q: With the lockdown restrictions, have you managed to get out and about in it?

A: Not as much as I’d have liked, of course. But we’re using it to do our essential shops, and we’ve also been helping some of our elderly and vulnerable neighbours too. It’s been nice to drive around in something so luxurious – even if it just to do the food shop! It drives beautifully, too. Derek and I also took my Mustang out for a little spin and did our very own car karaoke – it was so much fun!

Q: Where is the first place you’re driving to once lockdown restrictions are lifted?

A: To see my family! But after that, I can’t wait to hit the road properly, travel up and down the UK and get back on stage.

Q: You have two cars – which do you have?

A: We have two cars – one for me, and one for my wife as we both use our cars for very different reasons. I chose the Mitsubishi Warrior as I travel a lot, so I look for comfort, reliability and I need the space that a pickup truck can offer for all of my BBQ gear! And Sarah also needs space for our son Ernie, his hefty cricket kit and our three dogs, so she has the Range Rover Velar, and we are both chuffed to bits with our choices!

Q: Which is your favourite of the two?

A: Ah, that’s a tough one! I love them both for very different reasons. The Range Rover is extremely smart and is really stylish! But the Mitsubishi is exactly what I need. It provides ultimate comfort and is incredibly reliable, whilst still looking super smart and sleek, especially for a pickup.

Q: Have you managed to get out much in either of the cars?

A: Due to lockdown, unfortunately not – but of course, necessary. I had lots of events planned for 2020 and 2021, but as soon as these have been rescheduled, I’ll be driving up and down the country in my new set of wheels! I may even borrow my wife’s...

Q: Would you change the cars?

A: At some point in the future, of course! But for now, we are enjoying both of the cars, especially as they didn’t see much road action last year. I think everybody likes an upgrade, however I can’t wait to spend some time driving the cars we have now and putting them to good use for a while first.

Q: What made you choose for BMW 320, and did it live up to your expectations?

A: It’s a great car for travelling – not that we have been able to do much of it. But it has plenty of boot space to fit all of my golfing equipment, and some! It has definitely lived up to my expectations.

Q: What do you love about this car?

A: Besides its space, it is seriously comfortable – which is crucial for me! I need to feel comfortable when driving, especially for long periods of time, and it really does make all the difference. It is wonderful to drive and looks great. Not to mention its impressive entertainment system and heated seats – talk about luxury!

Q: Have you managed to go on any road trips?

A: I was fortunate enough to have my car for a short while before the lockdown and was able to attend a few tournaments. But I can’t wait hit the road properly again – it's been a while.

Q: What is it that you love the most about your car?

A: I’m a huge fan of this brand of car anyway, but it has gone above and beyond my expectations. It drives incredibly smoothly and looks really classy, too. I don’t think you can go wrong with a Range Rover, can you? The entertainment system and touch screen technology are really impressive as well.

Q: Where have you managed to drive your car, with the lockdown rules?

A: I volunteered to deliver parcels, so that was a great way to get out in the new car whilst doing my bit to help out. Other than that, I’ve only been going out to do any essential shopping, so I can’t wait to take it for a proper spin and get out on the open road! I did manage to have a trip out in Sam Bailey’s Ford Mustang, though. We did a little car karaoke and had a blast!

Q: Are you thinking of changing your car?

A: Not just yet – I'm enjoying this one way too much right now.

Q: Geoff, how are you getting on with the new car?

A: I love it. I recommend it to everyone. It has everything I need and couldn’t be happier with it.

Q: What’s your favourite aspect of the car?

A: Honestly, comfort is key, and I can’t fault it in that respect – or any other, to be honest. It’s incredibly spacious and drives like a dream. It may be big, but it has some serious power!

Q: Do you have road trips planned?

A: Not just yet, but there are quite a few in the pipeline! I’m often travelling around the UK, so I can’t wait to get back to it. I’m even considering an overseas road trip. Itay, perhaps. Although, after the last year, I am excited to drive a little further than to just my local supermarket!
